I love, love, love the title of this book, A Walk in the Snark by Rachel Thompson. I have been following Rachel on Twitter for a while, @rachelintheoc. Her tweets and blog, www.rachelintheoc.com, are hilarious and I recently found out about her book, A Walk in the Snark. She started her blog in 2008.
I also love that she self published this book! And, she helped co-found the Indie Book Collective (http://www.rachelintheoc.com/p/indie-book-collective.html), a fabulous group to help writers learn about self publishing and marketing on Twitter and other social media mediums. You know me- I have the upmost of respect for any entrepreneur who uses the word “self” and “indie” to achieve their goals.
Refreshing, poignant and snarky…
The book reminds me of Patty from Millionaire Matchmaker (guilty confession, I love her!), Sex in the City and a smidge of Oprah. It is irreverent, funny and then overwhelmingly poignant. A weird conglomeration of emotions!
She discusses her Mancode, the word she has coined for how men conduct themselves anywhere from grocery shopping to helping with kids. Hilarious!
She also spends several chapters discussing her former boyfriend who committed suicide. Her writing on this topic is captivating.
A few of my favorite quotes:
“Life can’t always be martinis and beaches.”
“Now sending a MAN to the store is like sending him into a foreign country.”
“Just as friends don’t let friends drive drunk, chicks don’t let men wear stupid pants.”
“I joke about hating to cook but to be honest I don’t really hate it. I detest it with every fiber of my Louis Vuitton handbag.”
Run to Amazon and buy this book for your Kindle for a mere $2.99 (I love the price too.) We need to support independent authors!
What are you reading and where are you going?

I love that you’ve featured a self-published book. It shows that there are alternatives for those who really want to get their words out!
Nice title…and I will look for her online. She sounds hilarious. I am fascinated by self-publishing.
This is right up my alley! No Kindle though
She had me at “Snark” and sold me at “Indy”. It irks me to no end that nearly since Gutenberg a small group of elitists -and until recent decades mostly male- get to sit in judgment of what I should be able to read. Power to the self published.. I think I’ll be stealing my kid’s Kindle for this one.
Thx Andrea for the wonderful review of my book. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
For those without a Kindle, a free Kindle app is available for ANY smartphone. They can then download the book. My ebook is also available on Smashwords and can be downloaded into almost any digital format.
Finally, I WILL release a paperback version within the next three months. But with ebook outselling paper, I wanted to get it out digital first!
Plz come visit my Twitter or blog anytime–I luv new friends
xo
Those are some good quotes
Ahh I need a light read. I am up to my elbows in research
Featuring a self-publisher is so very inspiring!! Thanks for sharing!!
OMGosh, love the title and the quotes! Brilliant! Off to follow her on Twitter
LOL I love her ambition and drive! Thank you for sharing!

Wow you have the coolest chicks over here, Andrea!
Usually when I write a Mancode post, I get dudes telling me how wonderful they are, how I can’t possibly understand the male perspective (apparently my eighteen years of marriage mean jack), and while my husband is incapable of changing a toilet paper roll, these guys are all seemingly perfect and have never met a household chore they can’t defeat in a single bound. #umsure
Which is all great–it’s a constant feedback loop of research for me, to be honest.
I just love men.
This looks so so so funny, and just what I need. So great to see this review
The title is catchy & your review is perfect!
