If you follow this site, you now know that I love summer. I love warm weather, hanging at the pool, traveling to the beach and reading summer books. My summer reading tends to be light and happy, to go with my mood. I just read Slow Dancing on Price’s Pier by Lisa Dale- a perfect summer read!
Set in Newport, Rhode Island, this book is the story of love on many levels. First, it is the story of a love gone sour- a divorce. Next, it is the story of a love of long ago. Finally, it is the story of a parent’s love for a child. On all of these levels, the book works!
Thea and Jonathan are getting divorced. I found their navigating through the divorce to seem both realistc and poignant. There is one scene where Jonathan lets it all out- he tells Thea all he has bottled up. I could literally feel his pain and Thea’s shock. Irina, their daughter, acts out in a very believable way. Thea wants to maintain her close relationship with her in-laws, a big task in light of divorcing their son.
Jonathan’s brother Garret enters the scene to support Jonathan and repair a long time family rift. Of course, Garret dated Thea before Jonathan. While you can perhaps guess the story line which I won’t spoil here, you will be pleased with the caliber of writing and the way the story plays out.
I will definitely be reading Lisa Dale’s other books this summer and highly recommend Slow Dancing on Price’s Pier.
Berkley Publishing Group provided a review copy of this book for this post. All opinions are my own.
