I love Elin Hilderbrand’s books in the summer. They are always centered near a beach and are perfect vacation reads. Some of my favorites are The Island and The Beach Club.
Her new book, Silver Girl, comes out today. It is essentially the story of Ruth Madoff. The main character Meredith Delinn lost everything when her husband, Freddy, cheated investors out of LOTS of money. She takes refuge wih an old friend, Constance. Fortunately, Constance has a place on Nantucket. What should be a safe place to hide turns out to be not so safe.
This is really the story of friendship, forgiveness and redemption. It is especially poignant when Meredith, at the advise of counsel, cannot speak to her two sons. She is clearly pining for her kids.
While you know where this book is going and you already know the story from The Madoff’s, it is a good read. Constance has her own issues as she is dealing with the death of her husband and moving on. I found myself cheering for Constance when she had her first post-widowhood date.
I suggest you get a fluffy drink with an umbrella or a Diet Coke with lime and a deck chair to read Silver Girl.
Little, Brown and Company provided a review copy of this book for this post. All opinions are my own.
What are you reading and where are you going?

The character of Constance is more intriguing to me right now, since this summer I’ll be attending my widower Dad’s wedding. Right now, I’m reading The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. It’s about a graveyard restorer who can see ghosts…on chapter 4 right now. I’m enjoying it so far!
I love her books. And this one sounds great as well. I look forward to reading it.
