We have reached the winter doldrums where most TV series are now in re-runs. Like all of America, we are big fans of Homeland on Showtime. Totally addicted. Two new series start this week that appear to “feel” like Homeland. The Americans starts on FX Networks this Wednesday, January 28th and 13 episodes of House of Cards, a new original series on Netflix, will be available on February 1st. A good week for TV!
The Americans on FX Network
I just learned of a show starting this Wednesday night on FX called The Americans. It looks to be very similar to Homeland on Showtime.
From the FX Networks website, ” The Americans is a period drama about the marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC. The arranged marriage of Soviet spies Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings, who have two children who know nothing about their parents true identity, is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War under President Ronald Reagan, and Phillip’s growing sense of affinity for the American way of life.”
It looks good! Here is an “undercover” look at it:.
House of Cards on Netflix
Netflix also has a new original series starting February 1st. It is called House of Cards and is a political thriller. Per Netflix, “Bad, for a greater good. Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).”
Anything with Kevin Spacey is good!
ALL 13 espisodes will be on Netflix on February 1st- meaning that, if you like it, you can watch them instantly. I love that!
Here is the trailer:

What are you reading and where are you going?

I stayed up and watched The Americans last night. It’s quite good. I’ve got it set up on Tivo. I’ve kept my Netflix account partly because of that House of Cards. I’m also looking forward to Arrested Development on Netflix. So much to watch, so little time.
