So you want more books like Downton Abbey? Ok, I heard you! Last week’s post, If You Like Downton Abbey Read These, was my most popular yet so I am going to make this a regular series. Poor Edith! Despite that she used to be very mean to Mary, I did feel sorry for her last night. She is becoming a very Jane Austen-esque character. I rather liked the old fiance. Here is Week 3 of the series and here is Week 4.
More Books Like Downton Abbey
I am very excited that our friends at Simon and Schuster are offering a giveaway copy of The Typewriter Girl by Alison Atlee to our Downton Abbey fans! I have not even read the book yet. It is next on my list. It comes out in January 29th so the winner will have a leg up on the rest of the reading community!
From the publisher, “Set in turn-of- the-century England with a strong, ambitious heroine, The Typewriter Girl tells the story of a fiercely independent young woman seeking to experience life on her own terms, just as the world is modernizing into the twentieth century. Determined to advance in life on her own terms, Betsey takes a position as an excursions manager at a seaside resort, knowing that it is her chance for security, her own identity , and a place to outrun her sins. Little does she know that she’ll face one of her life’s biggest challenges: letting down her guard and allowing herself to love and be loved.”

The Shell Seekers
The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher came out in 1997 and is still one of my favorite books.
From the publisher, “At the end of a long and useful life, Penelope Keeling’s prized possession is The Shell Seekers, painted by her father, and symbolizing her unconventional life, from bohemian childhood to wartime romance. When her grown children learn their grandfather’s work is now worth a fortune, each has an idea as to what Penelope should do. But as she recalls the passions, tragedies, and secrets of her life, she knows there is only one answer…and it lies in her heart.”
Simon and Schuster provided a review copy of The Typewriter Girl and will send the giveaway copy directly to the winner. All opinions are my own.
