There are so many great new book releases in January, 2013. Based on what I’ve seen, I predict that 2013 will be an amazing year for women’s fiction. And, that makes me very happy!
A few new book releases in January 2013
The three books I have chosen to profile today could not be more different. Here I Go Again by Jen Lancaster is chick lit at its finest by a maestra of the genre. The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin is serious fiction and a bit historical. Finally, I present Sonia Sotomayor’s autobiography, My Beloved World. These books are all wonderful but are so different that I can safely say that you will not see them grouped like this anywhere else!
Here I Go Again by Jen Lancaster
She’s back and as funny as ever. I LOVE Jen Lancaster’s books. Her new book, Here I Go Again, comes out January 29th. And, lucky you, you can read the first chapter here.
How can you not pre-order this book with a publisher blurb like this, ” Twenty years after ruling the halls of her suburban Chicago high school, Lissy Ryder doesn’t understand why her glory days ended. Back then, she was worshipped…beloved…feared. Present day, not so much. She’s been pink-slipped from her high-paying job, dumped by her husband and kicked out of her condo. Now, at thirty-seven, she’s struggling to start a business out of her parents’ garage and sleeping under the hair-band posters in her old bedroom. Lissy finally realizes karma is the only bitch bigger than she was. Her present is miserable because of her past. But it’s not like she can go back in time and change who she was…or can she?”
My favorite line here- “karma is the only bitch bigger than she was.”
The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin
The Aviator’s Wife is the fictional tale of Charles Lindbergh’s wife, Anne Morrow. The book came out this week and will be a big success. It is an engrossing read with excellent character development. A must-read!

From the publisher, “For much of her life, Anne Morrow, the shy daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has stood in the shadows of those around her, including her millionaire father and vibrant older sister, who often steals the spotlight. Then Anne, a college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the celebrated aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong.”
Random House provided a digital review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor
Are we all not fascinated by stories of strong women emerging from poverty to success? My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor came out this week. A Supreme Court Justice, Sotomayor writes this amazing book of her life. I cannot wait to read it. What a wonderful gift this will be for graduating seniors as a fabulous example of where hard work can lead!

From the publisher, “The first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor has become an instant American icon. Now, with a candor and intimacy never undertaken by a sitting Justice, she recounts her life from a Bronx housing project to the federal bench, a journey that offers an inspiring testament to her own extraordinary determination and the power of believing in oneself.”
What are you reading and where are you going?
