It is so scorching in most parts of the U.S. right now that people are tired, hot and cranky. So, the antidote to those feelings- a wonderful new book that offers an escape to a beautiful cool locale!
Lake Como by Anita Hughes- the Perfect Summer Read
Anita Hughes has quickly become one of my favorite authors. She cranks out 3-4 books a year, all set in upscale locales. Her first book, Monarch Beach was in our Top Books of 2012. Her second book, Market Street, was in our Best New Books To Read on Memorial Day. These two books were great stories with strong female characters but oh my, now let’s discuss Lake Como.
First, I have never been to Lake Como. After reading this book, it is now top of my list for my next European vacation. When reading this book, you can literally picture the water and feel as if you are in that boat with the characters wearing a fabulous hot pink silk Armani slip dress with ridiculously high silver sandals on. Anita Hughes’ writing has evolved to be on par with some of the finest women’s fiction authors. I would now rank Hughes with Amy Hatvany, Sarah Pekkanen, Sarah Jio and Beth Hoffman.
Lake Como has it all- family, romance, travel, and a bit of grown-up fantasy land. This book takes you away from it all to a place where the food is good, the accents are sexy and the men are charming. Want to go with me?
A few quotes from the book that I loved:
“Constance was a calm ocean liner in the choppy waters of Hallie’s youth.”
“If you really want to be Italian that means embracing la dolce vita.”
“We need love like we need to breathe.”
“They’re going to measure my hips to see if they’re suitable for childbearing.”
The book comes out on Tuesday 8/13 so rush to purchase or download. You will be so happy!
St. Martin’s Press provided a digital review copy of this book. All opinions and love for it are my own.
What are you reading and where are you going?
