Other things that make me happy are a little more expensive: seeing a movie at the fancy movie theater where they have leather chairs as big as in an airplane and serve food and drinks right in your seat. The occasional nice dinner out followed by a trip to my neighborhood bookstore, Laguna Beach Books. The rare trip to Fashion Island in Newport Beach to look at clothes and shoes.
But the thing that has made me happiest this year and for which I am most thankful is friendship. I am lucky enough to have friends in different states, friends that go all the way back to high school, friends who are authors and parents of my children’s friends. These people brighten up my day and make me remember everything else I have to be grateful for: wonderful children, a home, and good health.
The holidays have always been my favorite time of year because everything is put on pause and I can just be with my children, hang around the house, and let someone who actually knows how to cook use the kitchen! This Thanksgiving, I want to thank all the readers who have read my books and sent me kind words, all the followers on social media who pipe in now and then with smiley faces, and especially I want to thank good friends like Andrea who make life so much easier and more fulfilling.
