One of my all time favorite books was Apocalipstick by Sue Margolis. It is simply hilarious. The beauty of Margolis’ books is that they are downright funny while at the same time have a good message.
Sue Margolis’ new book, A Catered Affair, is no exception. Tallulah gets left at the altar but decides to go on with the wedding reception where she gets roaring drunk, flirting with all. Her mother is a challenge and her Nana Ida immediately starts matchmaking.
A taste of Margolis’ wit:
When Tally tells her mother she is engaged.. “You don’t look pleased. I mean, here I am telling you that I’ve managed to snare a handsome Jewish doctor- a pediatric cancer specialist, no less- and we’re getting married. According to the Jewish mother handbook, you’re supposed to weep tears of joy and tell me that finally you can go to your grave a happy woman.”
Cousin Stella said, “Maury’s always had a low sex drive. Once, twice a month. Then our youngest was born with red hair, and we both have dark hair. I could see only one reason for it. Rust.”
A Catered Affair is a quirky love story- another great summer read!
Net Galley and NAL Trade/Penguin Group USA provided a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
