As summer winds down, I was pleased to read to light books that just made me smile.
1. Hot Property, A Novel by Michele, Samantha and Sabrina Kleier– The authors of this book are the stars of HGTV’s Selling New York. The book is about a mother and two daughters who are uber residential real estate brokers in New York City. The satire in the book is great as the daughters do everything the mother does, wear similiar clothes, purses, etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed the realtor’s touring fabulous NYC properties with countesses and hedge fund millionaires. Beneath the wealth and lightness, there is good writing:
“With love there always seems to come a payment of one sort or another.”
“…leaving her feeling utterly bewildered. And terribley lonely, It’s the sort of loneliness that all the well-meaning, generous-hearted love from her family can’t help.”
Harper Collins provided a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
2. 40 Love by Madeleine Wickham (also known as Sophie Kinsella of the Shopaholic Series) Sometimes you need to laugh. Wickham/Kinsella’s books are good for that laugh. This book is no exception.
As with all British novels, there is a country estate, impoverished gentry and a wealthy sociality. The story centers around a weekend at the Chance’s country estate. Patrick Chance immediately starts selling his wares to his guests- a total British “no-no”.
This is a great parody on the social climbing upper classes.
Another fun read from Wickham!
Thomas Dunne Books provided a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
