I am delighted to welcome my friend, Amanda Henson of High Impact Mom, as a guest reviewer today, reviewing The Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber.
As a long time fan, there are a few things I look for in a new Debbie Macomber book. For instance, deep and complex characters, a complicated love story, a gorgeous setting, and a fascinating back story. The Inn at Rose Harbor delivers on all accounts, from Jo Marie Rose’s journey back from unspeakable loss to the stories behind her guests’ lives. The well-loved town of Cedar Cove is back in a new series with all new cast of characters to fall in love with and invest yourselves in.
As the book opens, Jo Marie, the main character, is reeling from the loss of her precious husband and struggling to find her footing in a new place with a fresh new career. Having just purchased an operational and well-known bed and breakfast in Cedar Cove, Jo Marie is preparing to accept her first visitors to the Inn at Rose Harbor and tamping down her jitters.
Her first two guests, Josh and Abby, are struggling with fears and personal issues of their own when they check into Jo Marie’s inn and each will have to find their own way in order to find the happiness that has thus far escaped them. I found myself relating most to Josh’s struggles with his stepfather in a way that surprised even me and was rooting for Abby early on while my heart broke for her every step that she fought for. Through out this story, I was cheering for every character involved that they might find their peace and their place within their worlds and found myself so thoroughly invested in the characters by then end of the story that I am already looking forward to the next in the series.
