Books Like Downton Abbey- 2014 Week 2

January 17, 2014 | by Andrea Katz | Great Thoughts | 2 Comments

Did you see Downton Abbey last Sunday? OMG! I was so shocked that I had to watch it twice. Anna is one of my favorite characters on the show (as is the very hot Mr. Bates.)  Our entire Books Like Downton Abbey Series can be found here.

Books Like Downton Abbey- Week 2

This book came out December 31st, 2013. From the publisher, “Lady Elizabeth Neville-Ashford wants to travel the world, pursue a career, and marry for love. But in 1914, the stifling restrictions of aristocratic British society and her mother’s rigid expectations forbid Lilly from following her heart. When war breaks out, the spirited young woman seizes her chance for independence.” Sound familiar?
I thoroughly enjoyed/devoured this book.

This is next up on my Downton Abbey reading list. Doesn’t it sound great?
From the publisher, “AMERICAN HEIRESSES TAKE ON THE PEERAGE
In 1895, nine American girls, including a Vanderbilt (railroads), LaRoche (pharmaceuticals), Rogers (oil) and Whitney (New York trolleys), married peers of the British realmoXamong them, a duke, an earl, three barons and a knight. It was the peak year of a social phenomenon that began in the Gilded Age after the Civil War and handed down the legacy of Anglomania, Preppies, the Jet Set, even Winston Churchill and Princess Diana, offspring of such Anglo-American alliances. In all, more than 100 American heiresses invaded Britannia and swapped dollars for titles. TO MARRY AN ENGLISH LORD is their story.”

William Morrow provided a review copy of Somewhere in France.  All opinions are my own.  Affiliate links included.

What are you reading and where are you going?

This series and the book suggestions are great! I’ve enjoyed looking through the whole series, except several of the links (on the Books Like DA page) are misdirects. Kept looping to week 6, lol! Anyway, love the books, thanks! Just a few more days to the new season!!!

I also loved Somewhere in France which I read a couple of years ago! I have found myself enjoying romantic fiction that has taken place during WW! and WWII lately. I heartily recommend you read, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah!

I am currently almost finished with my first book by Tana French, entitled, The Perfect Place. It takes place mostly in a private girl’s school in England and involves the solving of a mystery. Her writing style is very descriptive and I feel I have gotten to know the major characters rather quickly. Enjoy
