Welcome to Day Two of the Top Books of 2018. Yesterday I revealed the Top Ten Books of 2018, Books With Best Writing, Unsung Heroes and the Grace Under Fire Award.
Here we go with Day 2…
Top Books of 2018- Best of the Best
These books are by my go-to authors. I buy every one of their books in advance and relish them all. This group of authors NEVER fail me. They are like the mac n cheese or chips and queso of reading- always my favorite. (Ok, yes cheese obsessed.)
In alphabetical order by book title….
By Invitation Only by Dorothea Benton Frank
The English Wife by Lauren Willig
The Glass Ocean by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig and Karen White
The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews
The Husband Hour by Jamie Brenner
The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth
The Perfect Couple AND Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand
Somebody’s Daughter by Rochelle Weinstein
The Summer I Met Jack by Michelle Gable
Tiffany Blues by MJ Rose
Top Books of 2018- Funny Books
2018 was a year where we craved laughter. These three books are the perfect ones for laughing out loud!
Husbands and Other Sharp Objects by Marilyn Rothstein
My Ex-Life by Stephen McAuley
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
Top Books of 2018- Reliable Narrator, Reliable Author
The thriller and psych thriller category has gotten complicated. How do you compare thrillers as we have always known them to psychological thrillers? How do you compare books with reliable vs. unreliable narrators? Thus, I separated the categories.
The Banker’s Wife by Cristina Alger
The Flight Attendant Chris Bohjalian
Three Days Missing by Kimberly Belle
No Time to Blink by Dina Silver
You Were Always Mine by Nicole Baart
Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone
Top Books of 2018- Unreliable Female Narrator
As in 2017, the unreliable female narrator was very popular this year. If the unreliability trend continues and it will, I would love to see some unreliable men as protagonists. How about some crazy men with hidden psychoses? Now getting off soapbox and here are my favorite unreliables:
Girls Night Out by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke
The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances
The Wife Between Us by Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks
Top Books of 2018- Current Events
I love it when fiction addresses current events. In each of these four books, authors tackled current issues head on and created great fiction.
Rush by Lisa Patton- In Rush, Lisa Patton addressees race relations via a Southern sorority house.
Somebody’s Daughter by Rochelle Weinstein- Rochelle Weinstein addressees teens, sexting and the consequences in this fabulous novel.
A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult- Picoult bravely (as always) and brilliantly tackles a women’s reproductive clinic under attack.
The Husband Hour by Jamie Brenner- Brenner takes on military PTSD AND concussions from football in this wonderful book.
